Sarah contracted polio at age 2 and
never went to school. When an
American asked what she would wish
for, she asked that one of her brothers
be sent to school, because she said she
was "useless." Instead, Educate the
Girls provides a tutor for her, and in her
first four months of tutoring, she
finished the first three grades. Now
Sarah envisions a future for herself as a
computer specialist.
Sarah and Hajara are secondary school
students. Both girls want to be doctors. Sarah's
favorite subject is English; Hajara's is life
sciences. In Uganda, students study biology,
chemistry, and physics every year. Sarah
noted that girls in her village who are not in
school often get pregnant.
